Information: As VP of Sponsorship & Commercialisation, Leonardo leads the initiative for the society in securing funding, as well as promoting entrepreneurship, especially among research students in order to commercialize their research and inspire them to become entrepreneurs and harvest all its benefices.

Leonardo collaborates closely with the Mexican Research Council as well as the European council, in order to link top research groups with industries to enable the efficient knowledge transfer and commercialization of research and ideas.

Leonardo Rios is working towards his doctorate in the UCL Biochemical Engineering department, focusing in designing and optimizing whole cells biocatalysts with synthetic metabolic pathways for the production of high value pharmaceutical compounds. Through his research career and academic formation, Leonardo has collaborated with different research groups in UK, Mexico, France, Spain and Germany in different biotechnological fields, from petroleum biotechnology to synthetic biology, always with the idea to commercialize his research. Through his academic research, Leonardo won several prizes including the national prize for research with high impact in society and the environment (UNAM, Mexico).

Leonardo is also working as a research associate in a European Commission co-financed project (BIONEXGEN, http://bionexgen-fp7.eu), designed to promote the interaction between the top research groups and bio industries in Europe, in order to develop and commercialize the next generation of biocatalysts.

Leonardo is open for new business ideas and keen towards new trends in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Aquaculture.
